Product(s): SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
Overall Comment:"An easy and powerful platform for reporting, everything from specific user reports to email subscription reports. Our server environment is Microsoft based which makes the SSRS a perfect fit thanks to our developers and administrators knowledge and compability, and of course, the ease of use. If you are more interested in "Business Intelligence" or reports with more drill-down functionality, this is not the intended product for you. This can be done but it doesn't allow the user to explore the data as in Power BI or Qlikview e.g."
- You can write assemblies, in C# for example, and plug in to add support or modify behavior. Extremely powerful in enterprise scenarios, but requires quite a bit of deep knowledge. - Easy and fast to set up a new report based on a SQL query. Useful when users request custom data extraction as an example. Instead of just creating and executing the query and sending the user the results. Create a report that gives the user the ability to run it themselves the next time. - Maybe a trivial feature but the ability for reports to be generated in Excel and PDF (+more) formats enables users to easily use the output for different needs. Easy but powerful.
- Maybe a bit outdated style of the user interface. - CSS like design flexibility is missing and designing reports can take if you must have reports in your corporate profile. - Debugging could be much better. It's hard to get the actual exception message from the server processing/rendering. It's also tricky sometimes to find where you did put a condition/expression in the report template. There are many levels where they can be forgotten. - No SaaS as far as I'm aware of. On-premise or hosted on IaaS.
