What is operations support systems (OSS) software?

An operational support system (OSS) is a set of programs that help a company in monitoring, controlling, analyzing and managing a computer network. OSS software is specifically dedicated to communications service providers and mainly used for supporting network planning, network provisioning, service fulfillment, and service assurance from a common core of service and resource management. Other functionality includes embedded analytics, correlation and aggregation, reporting, product life cycle management, multichannel support, resource and asset planning. OSS data is of strategic importance to measure the impact of operational technical processes on customer and business goals.

In our network we use this software to manage and monitor Access devices like DSLAMs and MSANs. It is easy to add new devices, and manage them. There is a fault management interface on U2000. Real time and historical system alarms can be monitored via this software. With just one click, you can connect to your devices with Telnet etc. Also it has a graphical representations of devices, quickly you can check shelfves, cards and the status of any device. Device groups can be created according to the location and you can add access devices under them. It also has a user priviliges section on Security Interface and you can modify user rights here. U2000 is a very practical and user friendly software, i totally recommend it.
