Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) Likes & Dislikes
User IP and application-based bandwidth optimisation is what I like most about Cisco WAAS. It is a must-have product for every organization.
The performance once deployed is impressive enough that you may not need the WAAS optimization after all...
Cisco WAAS optimizes and compresses our TCP traffic and we don't have to touch the servers or clients to benefit.
There is nothing that I dislike about this product. It is a must-have product for every organisation and Cisco has always been the leader for these kind of products in the market.
Complexity
Seems to stop some 443 traffic that is legitimate and we have to spend hours troubleshooting.

Optimizing Internet Speed Effectively: An Insight into Cisco WAAS
I had a very positive experience with Cisco WAAS. It is a very good platform for optimising your ISP and your bandwidth usage. Cisco has always been known for its network optimising solutions, but this is one of the best products on the market. Policies can be defined not only on the basis of IP addresses but on the basis of applications as well like Teams, Zoom etc where you need proper bandwidth without any lag. Overall, it is a must product and I am very happy to have it. - Senior Network Administrator1B-10B USDEnergy and UtilitiesReview Source
Implementation of WAAS
Cisco WAAS optimizes our WAN TCP traffic over our business network and between corporate sites using WCCP. - Sr Manager1B-10B USDHealthcare and BiotechReview Source
IWAN on the ISR 4k
We deployed IWAN with Cisco resources under a PDI engagement. Our experience is considerable technical expertise is required to deploy, tune and support the various Cisco technologies that make up IWAN; DMVPN, QoS, and PFR. Lack of a consolidated management suite doesn't help supportability. The recent acquisition of Viptela and levels of future integration will be interesting to see. - Network Engineer10B+ USDConsumer GoodsReview Source
Happy with iWAN, but not undersize your routers.
As an early adopter of iWAN and PFR, we experienced performance problems and an number of bugs that we did not experience during the pilot phase. Part of the problem was that Cisco sold a solution that was not quite ready. We were given a baseline of the G2 ISR routers, like the 2951, but found that the demands on the cpu were too high. It would have been better to just know, at the beginning, that we needed to step up to the ISR4K. - Senior Manager IT Infrastructure50M-1B USDServices (non-Government)Review Source
Difficult implementation and maintenance, Buggy Code and a less than stellar experience
Extremely complicated to both deploy and maintain. Serious issues with code stability of WAAS - ended up deploying 3 different versions and had to roll back to old 5.5.7 code for successful deployment. Deployment had to be stalled while Cisco involved internal product teams for months to resolve issues. Cisco Prime is an inferior management product and APIC EM just doesnt work as advertised. In retrospect we should have gone another route.
