Construct 3 offers a great starting point for creating your own little and not so little 2D games. It offers a friendly user interface and you don't need to write any code at all since it offers a pretty polished visual scripting system using blocks.

It's a pretty lightweight piece of software. Has a lot of documentation to refer to if you ever have any doubts. Offers no-code programming via a visual scripting system.

the simplicity of the system is great it allows flexibility for users and reviewers

Event-based system is intuitive and fast, runs in the browser, no install, and One-click exports to multiple platforms.

The biggest downside of this software is its subscription-based pricing model. If you just want to develop a short game it's ok but if you are an indie studio that wants to create their first serious project being forced to pay on a monthly basis is an important thing to consider, especially if you are on a budget.

the back up support is second to none, the team are always available to iron out any issues

There's limited scalability for complex projects, JavaScript integration feels tacked on, and the subscription model isn't ideal for hobbyists.
