Finance department and the construction department have saved an enormous amount of hours in automating a few processes with these integration capabilities of SAP DSP. The integration options available in Datasphere helped to automate the Cost quotation tool implementation for construction. It involved SharePoint integration, CPI with weather data integration to datasphere models along with SAP BI Data and import models to SAC using ODATA. The project has been successfully piloted in 5 regions and is being rolled out in a phased manner. This will avoid manual errors at each stage of construction, and the plan is to onboard 400 planners across the globe. We have already done 140 planners, and the solution is highly valued by business. The front end in SAC adds value because of the direct connectivity and paginated reports and approval workflows are in place. This solution is a trend setter for SAC / DWC adaptability

Like

It is an integrated solution where you can all be contained on the same platform.

Like

The platform allows you to work with data virtually, without unnecessary replication, which speeds up projects and reduces storage costs.

Dislike

The options available to search for specific tables in replication flow sources can be improved There is no way to change the ownership of artifacts other than the 'Assign to Me' option Folder access control privileges in roles Selective exposure of objects in a space is not possible. The entire space is exposed to the DB user.

Dislike

When trying to scale out, it became severely cost prohibitive and technical capabilities limited what we wanted to accomplish.

Dislike

some features still feel incomplete, and a few transformations

What Your Peers Are Saying About Datasphere in SAP Business Data Cloud

Director of IT
Data Warehouse question. Based on recent guidance from SAP, we are no longer permitted to use ODP to transfer data from SAP to non-SAP environments. We are evaluating the use of SAP Datasphere for SAP centric data and Azure Synapse for external data as well as some SAP data. Reaching out to the community to see if there has been any experience (good or bad) with this approach?
Deputy Director - Human Resources and Finance
The decision to discontinue the use of the ODP protocol seems reasonable to me, as it can be a potential source of data leaks due to weak authentication and authorization controls, and lack of encryption.

We are currently on SAP/4HANA and BW/4HANA with traditional perpetual license. If we migrate BW/4HANA to SAP Datasphere, how will it impact our BW spend? Will it be more expensive and what is the ball park % increase?
Director of Data Platforms
That's a very good question and one that I would be interesting to see an answer to as well. We're just starting our assessment and what we can see already is that the answer is the proverbial "it depends" because DataSphere has many capabilities and the cost depends highly on what you use. What's clear however is that SAP is pushing DataSphere and is likely to give you some incentives for jumping on it, but I can already see that it will be hard to beat the cost of the on prem BW as we have such a mature setup where we've optimized heavily that the TCO of that will be hard to beat, for a stable setup. I think the difference will play out more on whether we need scalability, something that is costly to bring on an onprem platform. Nothing really new when it comes to comparing cloud and on-prem
