CRITICAL

“Not a very good switch to support mission critical non-stop application”

Extremeswitch come to our data center via Ericsson partnership. We purchased Ericsson IMS product deployed in data center, as part of the package Extremeswitch are included to prebuild the connection to IMS SBG/BGF server. Instead of connecting to all IMS components, we actually connect to extreme switch then to IMS components. Every site come as a pair, vlan trunking and vrrp are enabled to provide management, media and signaling path gateway. It runs dynamic protocols with next tier data center switch. However we have encountered many problems over the last few years. Forwarding stop with no reason, when you hard reboot the switch, the service come back. Obviously it's caused by instability of switch. We managed to upgrade software a few times, things become better but still have problem sometimes. Although we use this switch in very simple manner, not using very complex feature, but we still think this switch is not as good as branding switches come from mainstream vendors like Cisco,Juniper etc.

Extreme Campus/Datacenter Switching - Fabric is Flexible

    5.0
    Oct 4, 2022
We replaced our legacy data center and campus switching environment with Extreme switches running primarily VOSS. The fabric concept dramatically simplified our environment while at the same time provided greater flexibility. Stability has been exceptional. Their is a slight learning curve to get used to VOSS and some of the concepts, but not in any way a deal breaker.
