Overview

Product Information on Google BigQuery

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Google BigQuery?

Google BigQuery is a cloud-based data warehouse software that enables users to store, analyze, and manage large datasets using SQL. The software supports fast querying and real-time analysis of structured and semi-structured data across scalable infrastructure. It integrates with various data analytics and business intelligence tools, offers built-in machine learning capabilities, and features automated performance optimization. BigQuery enables businesses to process and analyze large volumes of data to support decision making, data reporting, and predictive analytics. The software addresses challenges related to handling and processing extensive datasets within organizations without the need for traditional on-premises infrastructure.

Google BigQuery Pricing

Google BigQuery is a software that uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model based on data storage, streaming inserts, and the amount of data processed by queries. The software offers on-demand pricing where charges apply for each query run, and a flat-rate pricing option that allows purchasing dedicated resources. Storage charges apply separately for active and long-term data, and additional costs may be incurred for data streaming and data transfer.

Google BigQuery Likes & Dislikes

Like

It is fast (mostly real-time) and scalable, and integrates natively with Google Analytics - we can identify where people have interacted with us, separately from our in-house platforms, and draw threads back towards the point at which we succeeded in converting leads. It can be useful in assessing patterns, even when the data is anonymised.

Like

The most compelling feature is data delivery from other google products - Google Analytics and Google Ad Manager most of all. The new-ish features for controlling spend are strong.

Like

The serverless, on-demand execution of queries without cluster sizing or spinning up nodes is a standout feature for me. You can just write queries and quickly assess results, or connect the results to datasets used in Looker or Google sheets.

Dislike

Some solid expertise is required to make the most of it - thankfully we have some very capable members in this area, making demonstrable improvements to our UX and strategy, and presenting the rationale well. Without this knowledge pool, it may be a less user-friendly and accessible means to draw these conclusions reliably.

Dislike

Working with google support is sometimes very frustruting

Dislike

Cost unpredictability is a pain point. The console's cost estimator feature helps, but it's often hard to control who can or cannot run a SELECT * and spike up costs.

    SQL at scale

As a data analyst, using BigQuery allowed me to get very quick results from running SQL queries on millions of rows without spinning up clusters. It rewards those who think carefully about the data models and structure before running queries, since the billing cost can be an unexpected surprise.

Unmatched Speed and Scalability for the Startup companies

I have used Google BigQuery for personal and enterprise company projects. No doubt it has been made with simplicity and serverless architecture to boost the productivity of a user and focus on problem solving. I already recommend it for beginners as it is user friendly and can be integrated with other data sources like bucket storage and marketplace datasets. Overall, I found it an intelligent tool with high scalability and cost effective.

A great data warehouse product for collating and manipulating data that you can easily feed into other systems. Constantly evolving with new features and has Gemini now built into it. Gives you direct access to cloud storage and scheduled queries can be set up to manage and synchronise the movement of data and files. There is a wealth of documentation and help files and of course Gemini to help people get up to speed and make the most of the product.

I consider Bigquery as the most hands off enterprise data warehouse on the market. I've been using bigquery since the start of my career almost a decade ago and it's generally a great experience.
