It is fast (mostly real-time) and scalable, and integrates natively with Google Analytics - we can identify where people have interacted with us, separately from our in-house platforms, and draw threads back towards the point at which we succeeded in converting leads. It can be useful in assessing patterns, even when the data is anonymised.
The serverless, on-demand execution of queries without cluster sizing or spinning up nodes is a standout feature for me. You can just write queries and quickly assess results, or connect the results to datasets used in Looker or Google sheets.
It is easy to setup, scalable, easy to maintain, and can also be used for Machine Learning for training. The separation of compute and storage is the backbone of the infrastructure.
Some solid expertise is required to make the most of it - thankfully we have some very capable members in this area, making demonstrable improvements to our UX and strategy, and presenting the rationale well. Without this knowledge pool, it may be a less user-friendly and accessible means to draw these conclusions reliably.
Cost unpredictability is a pain point. The console's cost estimator feature helps, but it's often hard to control who can or cannot run a SELECT * and spike up costs.
It comes with limitations like row and column operations, sometimes the cost can go high as calculations are not that straight forward. Console can be made more user friendly. Since it is serverless, the user has limited area for customization.
