IBM databand was an observability program that offered excellent observability and data management. It had a neat dashboard and allowed us to continuously monitor the things that we needed to monitor without issue. It allowed us to predict delays of many types and optimize our business processes.

“CDC ingestion strengths outweighed by operational instability and customization issues”

Overall , my experience with Streamsets has been mixed. It was a good fit when we initially adopted it, especially for continuous moving data from front end systems to Lakehouse using CDC. However over time , the expected end-to-end real-time use cases did not really materialize, and in practice we ended up using only a small portion of the tool's capabilities.

IBM watsonx.data integration Likes & Dislikes

Like

The thing I like the most is that Databand had intuitive and useful dashboards to look at. The dashboards looked really good and worked really well, better than many other dashboards that I've seen.

Like

Some of the strengths of Streamsets are as below Strong CDC ingestion capability - Streamsets is good in ingesting CDC data from Guidewire systems to Lakehouse. Connectors across multiple databases - Streamsets can connect to multiple database and easily ingest the data without writing extensive code. Easy to adopt - Streamsets is easy to understand and learn for new development.

Like

The most liked about the product is that it helps in minimal code writing but effective data pipeline building with its UI snaps. It supports multiple sources and destinations which makes data ingestion easy.

Dislike

The thing I disliked most is that it often gave me false positive notifications when I drilled its pipeline down thoroughly. I never expect this from software, but I am alsways surprised when it happens.

Dislike

Some of the weaknesses of Streamsets are as below Operational instability - the platform had issues with lag and dropped records with large scale workloads. Weak error handling - Limited options of error handling caused difficulty in debugging the issues. Customization issues - The platform cannot be customized easily with the upgrades causing difficulty with integration with other systems.

Dislike

What I dislike about IBM StreamSets is that some pipeline transformation logic requires writing Groovy scripts, and for data engineers not familiar with the scripting language, it takes extra time to build and debug the logic.
