Deciding Factors: PostgreSQL Vs. Market Average
PostgreSQL Likes & Dislikes
With no licensing costs, the database is feature-rich, highly reliable, and runs well in cloud, containerized, and on-premises environments. It also provides excellent community support and regular improvements.
Simple enough to translate existing SQL scripts for migration, all essential RDMS capabilities covered
It's open source, ease of use, acceptable performance and certain degree of stability
Requires advanced expertise for scaling tuning, clustering and HA depending on external tools, less enterprise support than other vendors, some monitoring and reporting gaps
Free tooling support is limited, and the tools are not very mature, quite clunky to work with / administer. Settings for transactionality and being able to apply groups of scripts at once are too complex and more sophisticated than necessary, default settings too are often unintuitive
less powerful than other solution especially on security side. Too many tunable parameters with poorly chosen default values. Poor documentation

PostgreSQL: Transitioning from MS SQL and Embracing the Change
We needed something that could be set up quickly without too many caveats, and PostgreSQL was chosen. It may not be the most versatile, but it is definitely the correct choice: its free, its fast, and its good.
