What is SmartBear Swagger?

Swagger is a suite of open-source and professional tools that facilitates the design, development, and documentation of RESTful APIs. It provides tools for defining APIs using a standardized specification, allowing teams to create interactive documentation, validate API requests and responses, and generate client and server code in various programming languages. The software enables businesses to streamline the API development lifecycle, reduce errors, and promote consistency across services by ensuring API definitions are clear and machine-readable. Swagger addresses the challenge of maintaining accurate API documentation and automating repetitive coding tasks, supporting collaboration among development, QA, and DevOps teams.

SmartBear Swagger Pricing

Swagger has three pricing models; free, SaaS, and on-prem. Both SaaS and on-prem are further divided by team size.

FAVORABLE

“Time-saving documentation and mocking, but limited customization options”

My experience with SmartBear Swagger has been greatly positive. It has been an essential tool fpr our Api-first design workflows. The documentation auto-generation from the OpenAPI definition saves our development team hours of manual effort and keeps our client-facing docs perfectly synchronized. Additionally, the ability to rapidly mock an API directly from the specification allows our frontend and backend teams to develop concurrently without waiting for full backend development.

Real-time consistency features valuable for teams, yet UI lags affect reporting

    5.0
    May 15, 2026
My overall experience with SmartBear Swagger is very good. It accelerates our API-first strategy by centralizing governance and documentation. The integration with spectral for real-time style guide enforcement ensures consistency across micro services, which is a major win for large-scale engineering. However the learning curve for query based reporting and lack of automated versioning for definitions can lead to manual overload. Improved role-based access controls and more flexible licensing models would elevate the platform for enterprise teams.

Swagger Offers Quick Setup and Simplifies API Testing for .NET Applications

    4.0
    Apr 17, 2026
We have been using swagger in our .net development applications for about 3 years. Swagger is by far the easiest API test tool available. Swagger can be setup in about 5 minutes minutes and it will save you hours. Overall, I have had a positive experience using this tool. If you are not using swagger in your dev enviorment you are missing out.

The online (and back-office) support teams are doing their best to assist. One issue though is that some unsupported abilities are classified as features which are pending undeveloped and we don't get ETA for their general availability.
