Strong Threat Investigation and XDR Capabilities with an Intuitive UI

    5.0
    Jun 24, 2026
Sophos Central is a very intuitive yet comprehensive platform that provides strong threat investigation capabilities. When reviewing detections, administrators can use multiple investigation views, including AI-generated summaries, threat graphs, process lineage and raw event data. This makes it practical for IT teams to carry out an initial investigation without needing deep specialist knowledge, which is particularly valuable for organisations that do not have an MDR package. The Cases feature is also useful, as it intelligently groups related detections into a single incident, helping to streamline triage and response workflows. Policy management is straightforward and logically separated by Sophos feature areas, allowing granular configuration while keeping related settings within a single policy. Sophos administrator RBAC roles are also easy to configure, enabling team members to view device health, alerts and detections without granting overly permissive access. The default Sophos dashboard provides a helpful overview of environment health, active alerts and items requiring manual intervention. Custom dashboards can also be created, which is useful if you want a more threat-focused operational view. Overall platform responsiveness is excellent, which makes day-to-day administration and investigation work feel efficient.

One of the strongest aspects of Sophos is its mature integration marketplace, which helps provide excellent XDR visibility across the wider security ecosystem. The acquisition of Secureworks should further strengthen this capability, particularly around event correlation and threat intelligence. This is especially valuable when combined with MDR services, where the SOC may not have direct access to every security tool in the customer environment. Another key strength is that Sophos encourages broad data ingestion rather than penalising customers for it. The Sophos Data Lake can retain a substantial volume of endpoint telemetry, alongside additional logs forwarded from third-party providers. This makes investigations more comprehensive and gives administrators the context needed to understand activity across the environment. The default 90-day retention period is also generous, with the option to extend it further if required. The platform also helps reduce operational overhead. Although Sophos collects and analyses a large amount of detection data to identify infection chains and behavioural patterns, day-to-day management remains relatively light. Its built-in threat logic, severity ratings and case grouping help prioritise what matters, reducing time spent investigating false positive alerts. Please see above the overall experience section for the additional benefits gained with Sophos Central.
