Tanzu Service Mesh offers advanced traffic management features that improve application performance and reliability. It also includes fault tolerance, and timeouts to keep applications stable during failures. Additionally, it uses microsegmentation to limit communication between services, reducing security risks.
Istio itself is very complex. It got better meanwhile but it is still very hard to operate. Since this product is part of the Tanzu portfolio VMware provides support for the installation and offers ways to integrate it easily with other Tanzu products.
Tanzu Service Mesh's predictive performance analytics uses AI to forecast potential service obstacles, helping to prevent issues before they arise. It also offers the flexibility to create and track custom KPI's tailored to specific business needs.
Making sure it works across different cloud platforms and Kubernetes may require extra setup and testing.
The product is niche product and has no broad adoption within the Tanzu/VMware community. Therefor it is hard to get best practices besides the official docs.
Tanzu has limited support for legacy systems, which makes it difficult to monitor applications that are not containerised.
