The overall experience with SAS Visual Analytics is just out of the box and out of the mind till now, this has changed the way we look at data, as a biostatistician, I am using the SAS VA at its best and it is helping me a lot to present my organizational and study level data. The type of visualization options it provides to create a VA report is just amazing.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

I used SAS Enterprise Guide primarily in a population health and biostatistics research setting involving large administrative health datasets. Overall my experience was mixed but generally positive for large-scale data management tasks. SAS was reliable for merging large datasets, creating analytical cohorts, generating summary statistics and running structured data workflows efficiently. Once a workflow is established, the process is usually stable and reproducible, which is important in a secure research environment. 

However, the platform often felt dated and somewhat clunky compared to more modern programming environments. Debugging was one of the more frustrating aspects of using SEG because error messages were not always intuitive or informative, especially when working with longer pipelines or multiple dependent scripts. The interface could also feel less flexible for exploratory work and iterative coding.

SAS Viya has a bit of a learning curve--even things as basic as reading in data were hard. Fortunately, the SAS community forums and our department's own SAS administrator are very helpful. Once read in, the data are easy to analyze using SAS's point-and-click ML tools. I am concerned (as always with dialogue box-driven analytic tools) about how customizable Viya's ML routines are: can I fine tune the starting parameters? The number of iterations or convergence criteria? The algorithm used?
