They also support engineering workflows, including the creation of data, feature, deployment and testing pipelines. The platforms are provided via desktop client or browser with supporting compute instances or as a fully managed cloud offering.

QlikSense is very flexible when it comes to data modeling, set analysis and advanced scripting. While the product requires a solid learning curve for developers (especially around Qlik scripting and performance tuning), the overall value delivered across data integration, governance and dashboard interactivity, makes it a strong platform for enterprise BI initiatives.

Both Qlik Sense and Pentaho met our business requirement at high level. But the cost model for Qlik was much better aligned with our client growth strategy (pay as you grow per licenses) than the Pentaho up front big investment. The Qlik business model allowed us to procure only projected number of licenses for the first phase of the product roll out while the Pentaho price model was too big of investment for the client up front. Also since the client doesn't have full requirement on what BI feature they want to implement, it was hard to justify the Pentaho big price tag. Qlik provided a perfect pricing model for our client where you pay as you grow and easily add other Qlik services in the future life of the Qlik suite.

The tool is very effective and offers great potential. However, we might not be fully aware of all its functionalities. One of the most challenging and time-consuming aspects has been the migration to Qsense. This is the second company I've worked for where the coexistence of two systems has created difficulties during transition. It seems to be a common issue that deserves more structured support of guidance.

We can use the platform for our traditional guided analytics, whereby we build compelling and complex dashboards, viewed in the thousands, as well as a place where self-serve users can explore their own data and discover insights previously missed or never considered. I believe Qlik Cloud stands above all the competition and would happily vote it the best BI tool available. 

For me, the key advantage Qlik has always had over other tools is its powerful scripting language. It offers unmatched control and creativity over the ETL process, allowing developers to create bespoke analysis for very specific business needs. The ability to build a 'data pipeline' within the script (before a data engineer has even heard of the project), allows us to rapidly build proof of concepts and quickly understand the benefits/value of a subject before committing to a productionised engineering project. 

We have tried and tested many other BI tools on the market, and Qlik has always stayed at the forefront of our data strategy. Not only does the script do what it does incredibly well, but it also allows users to explore data more freely (through the associative engine), and has a wide range of ever updating objects and features that our users love.

Overall, we found that QLIK was easily adaptable to our platforms. They handle the large amounts of data that we acquire daily, in some cases in near real-time. Extra add-ons like Vizlib allow it to produce vibrant dashboards and easily navigable reports. It has a great service team that is ready to roll up their sleeves and is finally coming into its own as the turnover has lessened over the years. The move to the Cloud comes at the right time as we are moving in that direction at the same time.

The deployment of the Qlik Cloud has made this an even better product to use with a lot of previously paid for features now included in Qlik Cloud.
