Gartner defines data loss prevention (DLP) as a technical control designed to prevent data loss in order to comply with personal data regulations, prevent unintended disclosure, minimize insider risk and ensure that sensitive data is not overly accessible. DLP controls are typically applied to reduce the data risk for two states of unstructured data: data at rest and data in motion. Depending on the state of the data, DLP applies detective, preventive or corrective controls, including alerting, quarantining, blocking, redaction or access restriction.

We have been using Fortra DLP since 2019 and so far the product is working perfectly. However, since 2015 the support was handed over to the Indian support team as it was initially handled by the UK support team but we found that the Indian support team is lacking in knowledge of the product, whihc results in GAP.

The platform provides strong data protection capabilities, especially in monitoring data exfiltration across endpoints and email. The policy and rule configuration is straight forward and flexible that allow us to customize to align with our organization's and compliance security requirements.

From an operations perspective, the implementation and administration is very straightforward and the management console offers clear visibility into the alerts and user activity. The alerting and reporting pages are very useful for incident response and audit reporting.
