The cost is the biggest issue. Its cost alone makes it unusable, especially when there are way better systems out there for a fraction of the cost. Its reliance on folders makes managing assets difficult. Most best in class DAMs rely on metadata to organize assets. AEM relies on folders. Thats a huge mistake. It handles video assets poorly. It doesn't handle print workflows well. It takes 2 too many clicks to do almost anything (for example, its heavily reliant on folders but I can't drag and drop assets between folders, I have to select assets, click move and then navigate to the folder I want to move them to). It doesn't integrate well with its own tools. For example, Creative Cloud uses libraries. Assets integration with libraries is a copy paste and it doesn't retain the reference so any Creative Cloud files linked to assets in a Library will not be trackable or reportable in the DAM. Also, Asset Link allows you to link to assets in the DAM but the search is a terrible experience and the path is not retained anyways when the InDesign file is uploaded to the DAM. The DAM does not you the path defined in Asset Link to find the references. It uses specific properties. So if there are duplicates in the DAM it could link to the wrong asset. And their OOTB duplicate handling is terrible. We had to build out own workflow just to make a serviceable way to manage duplicates. I could go on and on but I'll stop there.
