Features of Employee Performance Management Systems

Mandatory Features:

  • Support the digital delivery, storage and audit history of employee performance evaluations.

  • Support individual goal entry, measurement and evaluation by the manager.

  • Allow organizations to customize the performance evaluation form, including what components are included and rating scales used.

Optional Features:

  • Allow administrators to transfer performance rating data to other systems, such as an HR system of record, HCM or compensation planning technology.

  • Provide robust reporting, workflow notifications and customizable security roles to define user access.

  • Integration with workplace productivity and collaboration tools (Teams, Slack, etc.).

  • Native integration with learning management systems (LMS) to allow for an individual development plan that includes direct learning objects from an LMS and developmental goals to close identified skills gaps and document desired areas of growth.

  • Support the management and delivery of competency models based on organizational structure or job role data.

  • Support goal cascading, tracking and management by an employee or manager, including the ability to update goals throughout the year with optional approval workflows.

  • Enable continuous, periodic, structured and unstructured feedback to and from managers and peers throughout the performance year.

  • Feedback received throughout the year is visible within a performance evaluation.

  • Strong ties to other talent management processes including intuitive links to career planning, succession planning and talent review.

  • Support for performance calibration with real-time updates and corresponding workflow notifications.
