EA tools provide a means to model the IT and business aspects of the enterprise, in support of business outcome delivery. Doing so requires the collaboration of multiple stakeholders across the organization, with each playing a different role at a different time. The models and methods used by the stakeholders will vary depending on their role, and must be integrated and connected to other models to be useful.

Atoll is a software development firm that was established in 2001 as a subsidiary of consulting firm. Through our experiences in numerous enterprise transformation initiatives, we realized that a clear architecture diagram can significantly improve decision making, both in speed and quality. During agile software developments, we observed that architecture planning is increasingly important to establish a common understanding. Thus, our EA tool SAMU was initially developed 2003 when Atoll was tasked in developing a software to support the M&A of two banks. The scope of the activities included mapping out the IT landscape, identifying the vast network of business and IT dependencies, determining the data flows and modelling the transition project roadmap. We have since delivered it in 10+ countries all over the world and our colleagues have been fine-tuning the application ever since using a bottom-up approach with input from our customers.
