Tricky Setup and Unexpected Data Disclosure Highlight Challenges With Search Platform

It's very convenient how Glean is able to pull from a wide variety of internal data sources. It can effectively and quickly search all of these data sources and coagulate the output across all sources. It was easy to deploy across a large company, and also easy for each individual user to select what permissions they want to give Glean (in terms of which data sources it can access). Lastly, I really like the format of the output, including clear sections, selective bolding, and suggested next steps for how it can help further with the task at hand. It's also nice that it has flexibility of which LLM model you want it to use. Lastly, I like that it tracks upcoming meetings in an intuitive UX on the right hand side.

Here we go.. - need to be careful when connecting it to internal data sources (confluence, SharePoint, etc.), as you might end up in situations where hidden data is suddenly indexed and publicly accessible. E.g.,HR paperwork, contracts, etc. Glean does its best to maintain permissions, but even after being careful we were bitten by a couple of unexpected disclosures. - negotiation. It really felt like they were doing us a favor by entertaining our inquiries, arranging a demo, etc. If it were only up to me I would have dropped them there and then. - Quality of search results on internal data repositories. It's useful in 20% of the cases, at the point where I just don't bother anymore. - Quite expensive
