Exposure assessment platforms (EAPs) continuously identify and prioritize exposures, such as vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, across a broad range of asset classes. They natively deliver or integrate with discovery capabilities, such as assessment tools, that enumerate exposures, like vulnerabilities and configuration issues, to increase visibility. EAPs use techniques like threat intelligence (TI) to analyze an organization’s attack surfaces and weaknesses, and prioritize treatment efforts for high-risk exposures by incorporating threat landscape, business and existing security control context. Through prioritized visualizations and treatment recommendations, EAPs help provide direction for mobilization, identifying the various teams involved in mitigation and remediation. EAPs are primarily delivered as self-hosted software or as a cloud service, and may use agents for exposure information collection.

Our organization uses CYE's platform across a large decentralized environment with 37 independent subsidiaries. From an operational perspective, the platform has been very helpful in creating structure, prioritizing risks, and giving each subsidiary a clear set of actions. The product is strong at breaking down complex technical risks into something that is easy to understand, and the hygiene insights are especially useful.

At the same time, working in a federated global environment has highlighted some limitations. Consolidating all subsidiaries into a single, consistent global view has been challenging, and the multi-company report required adjustments after we provided feedback. Getting a fully unified, single-pane of-glass-experience takes manual work on our side, especially when mapping subscriptions, onboarding subsidiaries, and aligning data. Overall, the platform is valuable, but there is room for improvement in scalability and visibility for large distributed organizations.
