What stands out most about Anaplan financial close and consolidation is its ability to streamline financial reporting within single cloud application, reduces manual efforts through automation, and provides strong visibility with real-time reporting and audit trails. Its scalability, flexibility and centralized data model help organization improves reporting accuracy, strengthen financial close process. The integration capabilities and support for compliance requirement also make it a valuable solution for modern finance teams.

Effective utilization of this product requires extremely heavy user education. Experience with traditional Anaplan Models as a user is almost a pre-requisite, and even then, AnaplanXL has completely new terminology & functionality for connecting Excel to Anaplan Models and adjusting data. The user experience, even after spending hours learning the interface, is largely poor. It is difficult to identify bugs, formatting & cosmetics are not intuitive, and it requires re-signing in constantly (though this is being addressed). The user experience is difficult and a major blocker. From a development perspective, AnaplanXL connects to Anaplan modules. There is currently not an ability to select which line items should be available to AnaplanXL users versus not. This means that developers need to be extremely deliberate in thinking about the AnaplanXL experience when naming and designing modules. It means end-users also need to be trained on which Anaplan modules contain the data they are looking for. This was a major blocker as well, as our best use cases for AnaplanXL involved pre-existing models, and the modules in these models had not been developed in terms of naming or structure with AnaplanXL in mind, and extensive work would have been required to adjust. In summary, while we see the ultimate potential in this product, for our use-cases we did not feel it is a product ready in its current state for real business use.
