Gartner defines managed detection and response (MDR) services as those that provide customers with remotely delivered security operations center (SOC) functions. These functions allow organizations to perform rapid detection, analysis, investigation and response through threat disruption and containment. They offer a turnkey experience, using a predefined technology stack that commonly covers endpoints, networks, logs and cloud. Telemetry is analyzed within a provider’s platform using a range of techniques. The MDR provider’s analyst team then performs threat hunting and incident management to deliver recommended actions to their clients. Our overall experience has been alright to say the least. Their network sensors have been absolutely wonderful and are a cornerstone of our security stack. However, their SOC performance has been less than stellar, with many tickets and requests taking many hours - if not days - to receive attention and follow-up with us. This could be potentially catastrophic in the event are a massive security emergency.

Pretty much everything we have done to implement ESentire's MDR service in our environment has gone well. Since we are a small IT Team, their 24x7 ESOC monitoring capability has taken a huge load off of us in terms of attending to active cybersecurity threats detected in the environment, which sometimes flew under the radar when we did not have such a solution in place. For a small IT team like ours, I'd say this is a very handy service to have and IT Leaders like myself can sleep better at night :)
