SAP offers a portfolio of software applications that support various business functions across industries. These applications are designed to operate on a unified digital platform. As of 2025, SAP reports over 230 million cloud users and provides more than 100 solutions. Native integration and Reuse mode are the highlights. SAP Master Data Governance positions itself as an extension of the platform, relying on the validation rules already in place, so neither replication of work defining rules, nor learning new governance models is required.
Central data validation at source (MDG) to avoid issues when distributing the masterdata to other SAP and non-SAP systems. Improves the masterdata quality and has Workflow management capabilities
One of its greatest strengths in my opinion is its interface. It is easy to navigate, and what you see is what you get. It is also pleasing to the eyes and it is not complex. You would know right away which buttons and/or icons to click.
External connections and a convoluted user experience are the main challenges. While SAP-to-SAP connections are seamless, for integrations with external systems the same cannot be said. This is something to be taken into account.
It requires a continuous monitoring and maintenance team.
One thing that isn't to my liking is the themes of SAP. Different themes would have different positionings for icons in my experience.
