Defender for Cloud Apps delivers a complete protection for cloud apps while giving visibility into user activity, data movement and risk exposure across our environment. Whether users are accessing apps from managed devices or remote locations, the platform helps us maintain stronger governance without disrupting productivity. Compared to other tools we evaluated, Defender for cloud apps stand out because of its advanced machine learning capabilities and broader security coverage. The CASB functionality has been valuable for identifying shadow IT and giving us visibility into apps being used across our organization. Through cloud discovery, we are able to identify unauthorized tools, assess risk levels and make informed decision about whether to allow, monitor or restict their use. Its advanced threat protection capabilities have also been a major plus. The platform uses behavioral analytics, anomaly detection to identify unusual activities such as mass downloads, abnormal login behavior and potential insider risks. This gives our security teams stronger investigation capabilities and faster incident response before issues escalate Defender for cloud apps works seamlessly with the wider Microsoft ecosystem and give us connected visibility across identities, endpoints, apps and data. Having the unified view has simplified monitoring and strengthened security operations. The automated investigation and response has been a game changer. It enables us to detect, investigate and respond to incidents with less manual intervention that has reduced workload while improving response times and overall security confidence.

What I dislike the most about Defender for Cloud Apps is that the experience can feel quite fragmented at times, especially when switching between portals to configure policies, review alerts or investigate activity. Some features live in Defender XDR, others in EntraID, and a few still remain in the classic portal, which can make tasks feel like they take longer than they need to. The UI can often feel slow or inconsistent when working with large datasets, particularly in activity logs or governance actions. Whilst the platform is certainly powerful, some of the policy types could be more intuitive and easier to customise.
