Amazon API Gateway Likes & Dislikes
What i appreciate the most is the tight integration with services such as AWS lambda, AWS Cloudwatch, and AWS identiy. The built-in support for authentication mechanisms, rate limiting, usage plan and API keys simplifies API security and traffic management.
Within a few clicks, you can have a fully configured API, and you only get charged for what you use. It's intuitive and simple.
The platform is very simple and you do not need to manage your infrastructure, AWS can manage and scale up/down if you need it. Better performance and stronger security for services and applications. If you keep cost and performance monitored, you pay only for the resources that you have used.
The main challenge lies in pricing transparency and architectural complexity for larger deployments. Costs can increase quickly with high requests volumes, caching, or data transfer, making careful monitoring essential, especially for advanced routing, mapping templates and custom authorizer can be complex for new administrators.
While the pay per use model makes it easy to start and great for small companies, scaling up increases the cost more than you'd expect. On top of some other unexpected complexities and being locked in to AWS, the product is easy to start but requires careful consideration before committing long term.
If you need to change provider or platform it can be complex, AWS native functions and products are not compatible with some different providers. If your environment grows too you can have some problems managing it if you don't have a professional team to manage and monitor it. If you make mistakes in the evaluation/design phase you could have big surprises in the costs.

Scalability and Security Noted As Strengths
Very powerful API's services of AWS, you can deploy, manage, scale-up/down all your services stored inside AWS. You can orchestrate your environment in each of its components, monitoring performance, cost and logging. You can integrate it with all AWS services like Lambda, EC2, DB, CloudWatch. The front-end/back-end has very strong security methods to limit access and protect your data.
