That is a colaborative tool so everybody can pitch in to add information about all the data and it has a great overall view and the ability to drill through the information on each data piece, add external sources and include information about data quality and freshness.
I like most that everything is in 1 place. Ownership, documentation, glossary desciptions, insights (through SQL) in one central place.
The initial setup of Atlan was especially a positive experience as it went really quickly and smoothly. I have experienced the same for all of the additional sources integrated using the standard out of the box connectors. Some problems may happen with every software but in the case of Atlan it is extremely easy to raise a support request through slack or their service desk and more importantly you get prompt and professional help from their team. On each occasion, the Atlan team has been actively gathering feedback regarding the use cases in the firm and including many of them into their roadmap to deliver new features and enhancements.
The learning curve for new users is a bit steep Some features are cost driven, so you have to pay for stuff like AI It has some limits in workflow customization
Sometimes the support team takes a lot of time to solve a bug. That being said, the platform does still have bugs, sometimes so essential that we can't use a feature for a week or two. But, I do feel like they release a lot of stuff really fast, so that is nice though.
When exploring large data lineage graphs, you may sometimes experience slowness is rendering nodes and all dependencies. There are also limitations in filtering and restricting what's shown on the graph which may cause you to require extra time to understand downstream impact or upstream dependencies.
