Overview

Product Information on Azure Data Lake Analytics

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Azure Data Lake Analytics?

Azure Data Lake Analytics is a software designed for distributed analytics that allows users to process large volumes of data on demand. The software enables users to develop and run parallel data transformation and processing programs in U-SQL, R, Python, and .NET over petabytes of data. It provides features such as dynamic scaling, on-the-fly resource allocation, and the ability to handle complex queries across multiple data sources. Azure Data Lake Analytics is aimed at addressing business challenges related to big data by simplifying data integration, improving processing speed, and supporting custom analytics jobs without the need for managing infrastructure. The software helps organizations derive insights from structured and unstructured data, thereby supporting data-driven decision making.

Azure Data Lake Analytics Pricing

Azure Data Lake Analytics software uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model based on the number of analytics units and the duration for which the jobs run. Costs are incurred according to the volume of data processed and compute resources used during job execution. Users can adjust resources per job, and there are no upfront costs or termination fees associated with usage of the software.

“Marketing Looks Good but Challenged in Real Work Implementation”

Product looks good but tried to get more support from vendor on demonstrating capabilities, possible use cases, how other companies are using it. Have not had great success. There are many components to their AZURE analytics solution, just takes time to understand how all the pieces work together. Most of the R&D has been through staff fumbling through the sea of possibilities. Slow progress.

Microsoft is aggressively adding Azure capabilities to its cloud solutions like Office 365 email, OneDrive for Enterprise but Microsoft cannot use EDM for structured data. This is critical for us.

Implementation was easy but more features required

Azure Data Lake Analytics lets us pay per each Job which saves tons of money without any infrastructure or any commitment, It is very easy to create ADLA jobs in USQL compared to other Big Data Languages and its is easy to transition from TSQL to USQL. Although it is good tool and very smart way to implement technology but Azure Data factory which is used to build pipelines need significant improvements in features such as allowing easy way to backfill data, also alerting is very limited.

Easy to get started with Data Lake, and build on structured/unstructured data sets using data lake analytics. The data lake analytics tool is transformation rich, and provides loads of compute power to speed up processing times (without load contingencies).
