Overview

Product Information on Bitcoin

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is software designed to facilitate peer-to-peer transactions using a decentralized digital currency system. The software enables users to send and receive payments without reliance on central authorities by utilizing blockchain technology, which securely records all transactions in a public ledger. Bitcoin software incorporates features such as cryptographic security, transaction validation through mining, and the ability to manage digital wallets. It addresses the business problem of enabling value transfer across borders with lower transaction costs, increased transparency, and reduced risk of fraud compared to traditional centralized payment systems. The software supports a global network of participants and relies on open-source principles for development and maintenance.

Bitcoin Pricing

Bitcoin software does not have a structured pricing model as it is open-source and freely available for download and use. Users do not pay fees to use the software itself, though transaction fees can be incurred within the network when transferring Bitcoin cryptocurrency. No subscription or licensing fees apply to the software.

We've been using the the blockchain technology that's behind bitcoin to serve as the electronic ledger system in our startup. We knew that the very nature of this tech was to be fool proof and eliminate any possibility of data tampering, so were pretty eager to get this implemented. We're pretty sure it set up our startup to be a success in the near future. We've also been trying to implement bitcoin as the primary method of payment from our clients and so far, it's been great!
