The sheer value for money that this platform provides. I have been involved in several data governance tooling implementations in my career and have spent a lot of time in this space. There is a gap between the sales hype and the reality of using something like this to benefit the business and in terms of ease of use, flexibility and value Dateado provides it deserves a lot more exposure to the market. For a fledgling Data Governance / Data Discovery program, the tool provides a much faster route to real results, and has for the most part everything that the Big players have in terms of features that you would expect. The team and tools are not there to become the Data Team so to speak (which in some of the larger tool vendors they offer an array of consultancy Set up credits and ongoing support for something that is very big and frankly complicated). They are there to enable you to build knowledge, governance and reporting on your data estate. This tool does this marvellously The ability to deploy on-prem is an absolute plus point, particularly in the current cyber security conscious IT space. The team provided a POC trial that was also instrumental in being able to build the business case. Flexible payment terms and really; easy to understand licencing
Manual exportation of data can be downloaded in an excel format. Unique keys identification. Support of multiple databases.
Overall, Data Lineage is by far their most powerful feature. But the Business Glossary and speaking the Business language truly engages Business people in the tool. It's the only tool I have come across in my career that has helped bridge the language barrier between business and technical. What you have to admire about Dataedo is the numerous features and the constant roll out of updates and new features. It gives us the ability to offer our clients a one-stop shop for all of their data management and data governance needs.
There are a few things that could be better and I have shared these with the team - but I think 1. Some more flexibility in customisation of the UI itself so as to be more appealing and feel more of the the business. If we can make the UI look and feel like other tools / portals in the business so that it does not feel different. It goes a long way for adoption. 2. Flexibility in reporting within the tool. There is the ability to create custom quality and reports but things that specific audiences could tailor, Compliance for example. Rather than going to another output or dashboard, if it could stay within the tool that would be good. 3. AI token flexibility: There is some, but it really does depend on your environment and IT teams would understandably be nervous about using external Open AI. It is a powerful addition but needs work, particularly in the current market where AI seems to be prevalent everywhere.
If compared to SQL, few high end features are still missing. Cannot be exported in Word format
This is tough, as I really struggle to fault it. If anything, the only weakness is that it's still not a well-known tool. So we have had to promote it, but it sells itself. When we have demo-d our work to the client, it has been welcomed and admired. So much so that the client themselves now want it for themselves.
