We valued EY's comprehensive, end-to-end approach to finance transformation that went far beyond typical consulting engagements. Their systematic methodology included defining clear vision and strategy, leveraging prior experience to identify specific performance gaps, conduction rigorous root cause analysis to understand underlying drivers, and delivering actionable improvement options with detailed business cases and roadmap. In this specific project, EY didn't tell us to start with a blank slate for requirements, they brought a leading practice baseline, and forced us to think through the why behind exceptions to leading practice, working together to achieve an outcome that was maintainable for our long term. EY was able to significantly increase speed to close, executing account reconciliations, and reporting capabilities on actual financial results, while decreasing risk through process improvement with a constant eye on controls. Furthermore, EY's ability to create strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels significantly made change management more seamless than I've witnessed in prior, similar projects. They had transparent and open dialogue throughout the process improvement and technology implementation.
I do not have any dislikes about EY Finance Transformation services or products.
1. Junior staff were clearly not as capable and did not communicate properly to senior EY team 2. Time tracking was not accurately reported for 1 month 3. Project was delayed as a result of 1 - 2 above
While our overall experience with EY was highly positive, the primary area for improvement would be better connectivity across other functions at our org earlier in the program. This may be slightly unfair to EY, given they pushed this message, but other stakeholders within our organization did not take the time to build their own business case or own the transformative change to their processes. However, if we could have expanded further beyond accounting and tax, to FP&A, we could have increased the overall value to the organization. This observation is relatively minor in the context that this was outside the agreed upon scope of work but was an opportunity that we and EY did try to push across the entire organization.
