What I like about Gemini Code Assist is the fact that you can double check mistakes, is very efficient in prompting the right issue in the code if any, and offers suggestions for improvement and productivity.
leverages cutting-edge models for natural language understanding with a seamless user experiencewith very good performance
I like how well it handles structured and clean codebases. If your project is well-organized, the suggestions tend to be accurate and readable. It's especially good at generating boilerplate and following standard coding conventions.
One of the weaknesses of the program is the latency when using VS Code and if the data file is large. Another weak point I would say is the fact that the prompt suggestions are decreasing in value if you want to ask more and more in large sessions. I'm not sure if Gemini is in the incipient phase of development, but it struggles when you ask for complex problems and more complicated architecture. I am sure this will be fixed in the near future.
lacks robust, advanced analytic thinking compared to other products. also I find workflows are not as customizable as other competitors.
The biggest downside for me is the thinking lop issue. Sometimes Gemini gets stuck processing a prompt for a long time, especially slightly complex ones. It looks like it's working, but nothing new comes out. In a few cases, after waiting, it just repeats an answer it already gave earlier. The only option is to cancel the prompt and try again in a new chat.
