Gemini is a great everyday LLM and excels at deep research, however when it comes to being used as an AI coding assistant, there are some issues with context, structure and hallucination. Often times simplest of code needs to be rewritten due to duplicate functions or variables.

What I like about Gemini Code Assist is the fact that you can double check mistakes, is very efficient in prompting the right issue in the code if any, and offers suggestions for improvement and productivity.

- Simple model selection - Integrated into Google Suite - Easy to use and get started with

Accessibility across platforms. quick response, results that are extremely focused on the topic requested. Ease of use, the ability to scale and grow with the requirements presented.

One of the weaknesses of the program is the latency when using VS Code and if the data file is large. Another weak point I would say is the fact that the prompt suggestions are decreasing in value if you want to ask more and more in large sessions. I'm not sure if Gemini is in the incipient phase of development, but it struggles when you ask for complex problems and more complicated architecture. I am sure this will be fixed in the near future.

- Context Awareness is not as good as other models - Gemini often times creates duplicate variables or functions - Runtime awareness could be better

As with most AIs, you have to be very specific about the questions asked in order to get the relevant response back, ask a vague question and end up with a completely irrelevant answer. However, focused on the task and provided a high level of detail, the results are outstanding. Some tasks required a piecemeal approach, but worked really well.

Gemini has become a useful support tool across research, writing, data handling and ideation for me with my day to day workload. I mainly use it for drafting, summarising documents, generating first-pass content and sense checking. It fits in well with the other Google Workspace tools and the frequent updates all seem to be making improvements. I'm excited to see where we are in 12 months. I also use it for AI code assistants for small development tasks, debugging and script checks. It speeds up a lot of bitty tasks and overall is really efficient.

My experience with Google Gemini has been mostly positive. I have used it for a mix of work and personal tasks - things like writing drafts, summarizing long requirements of the client, generating the QA test cases, and it even helps with quick research. The UI is clean, fast, and it is easy to use, so I do not get overwhelmed while using it.
