Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Likes & Dislikes

Like

Easy cluster management, strong performance and reliability with deep integration with Google Cloud. Logging, monitoring, IAM and VPC integration feels seamless. It's easy to connect GKE to other GCP services without complicated configurations.

Like

I like how it automates cluster management and scaling. Integration with Google Cloud is a very smooth process.

Like

I like GKE automated cluster management the most-features like auto scaling easy upgrades and strong integration with google cloud service make deployment and operation very smooth.

Dislike

Costs can add up with surrounding services. GKE itself is reasonably priced, but the surrounding services will add up quickly. Steep learning curve for beginners. Some features feel Google only.

Dislike

Set up and configuration can be a bit on the complex side. Several of the advanced features are not as user friendly to set up and get just right.

Dislike

The pricing structure can feel a bit complex at times and certain advanced configurations require additional effort to set up. More simplified cost visibility and configuration guidance would improve the experience.

Evaluating Google Kubernetes Engine: Scalability Benefits and Challenges With Debugging

    4.0
    Mar 19, 2026
We've had a strong experience with Google Kubernetes Engine. It provides a reliable, production-ready Kubernetes environment with minimal operational overhead compared to self-managed clusters. The integrations with the broader Google Cloud ecosystem is smooth and the platform scales well for high-traffic workloads. That said, there are still areas where visibility, cost predictability and debugging can be improved, especially at scale..
