Overview

Product Information on LockDown Browser

Updated 13th October 2025

What is LockDown Browser?

LockDown Browser is a custom browser software designed to secure online assessments in educational environments. The software restricts students' computer activities during an exam by preventing access to other applications, screen capture, copy-paste functions, and navigation away from the testing page. LockDown Browser helps maintain exam integrity by disabling the ability to print, take screenshots, or visit other websites while a test is in progress. It integrates with learning management systems to provide compatibility with online testing platforms and is used to address issues related to cheating and unauthorized resource usage during online examinations.

LockDown Browser Pricing

LockDown Browser is a software that utilizes a per-student, annual licensing pricing model for educational institutions, with costs varying based on the number of users and institution type. Individual student licenses are also available for purchase, typically on a yearly basis. The software pricing is structured to accommodate both large-scale institutional deployments and single-user needs.

LockDown Browser has an important security feature but the electronic issues affected how much value it provides. The technical problems during testing produced more negative effects than the security advantages brought by the application.

LockDown Browser Likes & Dislikes

Like

It is easily installed and updated on lab computers.

Like

The concept of establishing an examination space for online tests brought me peace of mind. The system prevented users from accessing internet sources during tests which helped protect student work from being compromised.

Like

It is light and quick to install and allows to isolate the user from other software, ideal for conducting remotes exams or interviews. It is really easy and quick to install (less than 100mb)

Dislike

The standard version requires admin privs if you don't have a lab version.

Dislike

Multiple times during my exam the browser froze which forced me into stress and harmed my focus. I waited helplessly for the built-in chat support system to reply during the dangerous test interruptions.

Dislike

Nothing in particular. It does what it promises to do.

LockDown Browser for the online exams is a good idea but the problem with false positives is a major concern. However, the remote proctoring tool is useful, there is a need for a better method of identifying cheating as opposed to merely technical issues.

Using LockDown Browser: A Game Changer for Online Assessments

    3.0
    Nov 25, 2024
I was introduced to the LockDown Browser shortly after Covid. We had moved most of our modules online for the first time and the students were attending online classes from home. They were also taking online assessments. We soon realised that students were searching for answers online while they were taking quizzes and tests. When the exam time came we needed to maintain the integrity of the exam. LockDown Browser came in as the only solution to our problem.
