I have worked on the NCM tool for years and would say it comes quite handy at automating some really critical manual tasks. Configuration management was a really tedious manual process and time consuming and even lead to some very bad breakdowns and outages due to human errors, using this we reduced those alerts greatly although integrating all our devices and keeping them connected was also a bit of a task but at the end it helps greatly in managing the pushing of the configs really fast and increased our team's efficiency.

The ability to keep device configs backed up, track changes and manage everything from one place has saved us time. The initial set up and tuning was a bit more involved than we expected it to be.

Performance of ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager Across Market Features

ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager Likes & Dislikes

Like

The firmware upgrade management thing, that was the thing I liked the most as it was really a major problem to track upgrades and keeping everyone in sync and it came very handy in handling that. It also has a lot of features which sometimes make things easier like custom scripting, reports, dashboards etc.

Like

Configuration backups, change tracking and having one location to manage multiple devices is very nice. Having automatic backups means the backups are happening. Change management can make troubleshooting easier.

Like

The dashboard is what i rely on most. As a networking engineer managing a smaller fleet of around 8 devices, having a single pane to see configuration status, recent changes and device health across the environment saves a real amount of time. It surfaces the information 1 actually need without me having to dig through individual devices console.

Dislike

I would say it is decent, but the UI is what I think they need to work on, it feels primitive and also lacks a few features like creating custom devices just via ping discovery etc. Rest it is good to start with the tool

Dislike

The initial setup is more involved than we thought it would be. There is a bit of a learning curve, figuring out where everything is. Some settings are not always obvious.

Dislike

Two things stand out. First the licensing is expensive relative to the size of our deployment or environments that are managing hundreds of devices, the cost to value ratio is harder to justify and the pricing tiers feel oriented towards large enterprises. Second, the community around the product is fairly thin compared to other network tools i have used so far. When i run into a niche issue or want to see how others have approachd a specific configuration scenario, there isn't much in the way to forums, blog posts to fall back on. One addition thing i dislike is Reporting limitation - its hard to customize the reports generated by this tool, exports are basic csv files.
