“Service meets our requirements but things can get pricey.”

3.0
Apr 17, 2019
We started using Azure cloud services at the end of 2018. It was a mutual decision to move to Azure cloud services to be able to group all Microsoft related products/services together for a cost savings. The overall services seem to be great; however, they seem pricey compared to other cloud service providers. Also, they appear not enterprise ready.

Performance of Microsoft Azure Cloud Services Across Market Features

Microsoft Azure Cloud Services Likes & Dislikes

Like

Single sign on with active directory users and 365 email email users where you can maintain a single password for each login and maintain security compliance. Also we have disaster plan for BCP.

Like

It works, it seems stable so far, and it's reliable.

Like

Easy to implement and azure cloud powershell scripting for template creation

Dislike

Some users still asking for multi factor authentication while i have implemented single sign on features. Since i have a E1 and E2 licenses but Microsoft force to purchase E3 license to resolve such type of issues. Microsoft license too expensive

Dislike

There are options that are standard in other places that are an extra step or an extra cost with Azure. Turning off the machine from within the OS or command line interface does not deallocate resources. You have to deliberately press the stop button. Don't get me wrong I understand this improves speed and reliability; however, other cloud service providers give you the option to deallocate the resources when the machine is off and not in use. This issue leads to additional cost. Also, there are options and things you can do with powershell, azure CLI, etc., that you can not do from the GUI. An example being swapping OS disk. I could see the appeal of swapping disk via a scripted method, but let me do it from the GUI as well.

Dislike

Nothing as such but cost where they can think of.

    The Cloud vs IaaS/Private Cloud

Overall, my experiences are good when employing technology services as PaaS resources. When employing IaaS, Azure begins to providing a similar capability to on-premise systems and looses its strategic advantage over any on-premise data centers and mask to the true advantage of the cloud.
