All of SAP's much-needed integration services are combined into a powerful package which includes CPI for handling process integration, orchestration, API management and Event Infrastructure services are truly commendable. In recent years, 500 Interfaces have been successfully deployed on our SAP IS service leveraging CPI/CI, APIM and EMIS/AEM services providing seamless integration between our SAP S/4 HANA and other non-SAP, 3PL applications. These BTP services ensured real time data connectivity and operations with high availability setup, increasing our operational efficiency and agility, consolidation of middleware applications and ease of doing business throughout our SAP eco system. The constant audit support provided by SAP product team and their expert guidance, especially on integration services, has helped us in reaching our project major milestones on time and with high quality.
The promise to be a one-stop-shop for integrations, which proves to be true. - SAP-SAP integrations are effortless - visual integration designer - connection of Cloud ALM was effortless - SAP-third party integrations are tricky to setup but when done correctly, it just works - third party-third party integrations are not easy to implement
The comprehensive set of capabilities required to build modern, future-ready integrations is complemented by an expanding library of preconfigured content that can be used as templates. All of the services are running as pure SaaS/PaaS solutions lowering the operational effort on customer site.
Except for minor issues, overall SAP Integration suite product and services is a great tool especially for green field, brown field and SAP PI PO migration projects.
- lack of precise running cost estimations - cloud connector setup requires special competencies which are not easily obtainable - lack of code versioning repository (at least in it's traditional GitHub sense)
Monitoring capabilities for integrating modern third-party solutions could be improved. It sometimes feels as though the Integration Suite is overly protective, aiming to keep users confined within the application itself - even though middleware is inherently designed to support processes that span across multiple systems. Also, the missing true CI/CD integration is outdated and transport management does not work well in automating API Management tasks. In addition, changing from the former SAP PO to Integration Suite does not offer any benefit in regard to migration cost. Things are charged twice until on is able to cut off the SAP PO from former contracts.
