SRM is an excelent tool, that addresses nearly all of our disaster recovery needs. Its management console is straightforward and easy to navegate. The ability to modify VM IP addresses is of utmost importance to us since our data centers operate on separate IP segmens. However, this very feature has brought us several headaches (aka bugs). Therefore I consider it as one of the weakest points of the product.

It is a good tool to automate the tasks of the disaster recovery plan, however the synchronization time to return to the main site is too high, which does not allow testing

Its seamless integration with vSphere. As I already said in the overall experience, being spared of changing hundreds of IPs configuration by hand is a must and SRM does it (albeit with some bugs). Its ability to test the recovery plans without impacting production is a very welcome feature. And last but not least, it support for storage array replication.

The positive of the tool is the possibility of automating the tasks to move from main site to contingency site

You have a centralized interface for configuring, testing and executing disaster recovery plans across multiple sites.

Occasionally, VM IP changes fail, requiring manual interventios en each affected VM. This manual process is time-consuming and unacceptable during a disaster recovery scenario.

The negative aspect of the tool is that the high time required to synchronize the main site and the contingency site does not allow testing

The price.

Site Recovery Manager revolutionized the way disaster recovery plan were designed and executed. This involves 2 simple steps: Protection & Recovery. Also the Test option is perfect whenever you want to check the protected vm's and functionality are ok.

We have been using the product for about 4 years to back up the important servers of our company. SRM undertakes a very important task in disaster situations. Our company conducts various tests for emergencies with SRM every year and SRM gives very good results. You don't need to be an expert for the product. Because the product is very easy to use and integrate.

We use the product for the rescue operation of our company's virtual servers in disaster situations. Our company has 60 servers in the production environment. Disaster scenario drills are held once a year for these. SRM has always been successful in these drills. This situation relieves us.
