For disaster recovery (DR) purpose vSphere Replication has been useful to us. It does a perfect job of replicating virtual machines (VMs) to our offsite location to help us continue business in the event of primary site failure.
vSphere replication will give you several benefits as compared to storage-based replication: -A replication solution that will give you flexibility in the storage vendor selection at the source / target sites. -Lower overall cost per replication -Data protection at lower cost.
If any services stop in replication sever we should get some alert
vSphere Replication is not very helpful when it comes to failover testing. The limited testing possibilities of vSphere Replication mean that one cannot adequately simulate failover without affecting production VMs.
-Replication speed depends on the network conditions and workload. -Doesn't maintain an extensive version history of VM's -Recovering replicated VM's could be more complex than restoring from traditional backups.
