Ease of use, after a not so steep learning curve. Has built in tools for anything that you need for 3d designing.
SketchUp's simple controls and easy to use features enable me to easily draw concepts and test various designs. This rapid prototyping phase is most useful for getting everyone aligned in the first few weeks of a project.
The features are easy to understand and easy to use - the materials, components, and lighting settings are defined enough to provide realism to the environment you are modeling. I like to use the walk-through scene features to export interior views for others in my organization to understand the 3D space I have designed.
Zooming in on surfaces can be a bit cumbersome sometimes, especially when you don't have the camera centered. It can be frustrating, until you learn how to jiggle it.
Such data as detailed drawings and technical specifications demand the use of better CAD software. Sharing models for further enhancement in other programs can be a troublesome process as it results in loss of data or-entry of wrong data.
Exporting and importing outside models into SketchUp can be clumsy at times and model details can be lost or bog down the software. Elements brought in as components from SketchUp library can be inaccurate or create issues within an existing model. Settings with Sketchup are simple so creating curves or more complex shapes can be tricky.
