One of the features that stands out is the 3D Well profile visual that allows you to manipulate different angles and zoom options. Another strong feature would be the ability to produce well placement helping drilling engineers in designing drilling pads and last but not least is the ability to leverage seismic data, drilling and production history to make better decisions.
1) Analytic capabilities (statistics): It has more built-in analytics than other BI tools. 2) Visualizations: It has some unique visualization capabilities with geometry based mulit-layer map charts. 3) Customization: It has an outstanding API allowing better and more professional customizations than other BI tools.
Mobile Access, Reporting and data discovery, Real-time sharing
I wouldn't say I dislike it, but it takes some time and effort to get used to the calculations, document properties, and their limitations. Some complex analysis would require knowledge of Python or R scripts, which might be a barrier for those without coding skills.
1) Big Data Readiness: Spotfire's outstanding built-in analytics are all disabled when working with in-DB data, Spotfire's expression language for calculations is not translated into the various data source's dialects but needs to be modified when going from in-memory to in-DB and temp tables (a must have for some big data queries with exploding IN clauses) is only supported for in-memory analyses. 2) Analytic capabilities (AI/ML): Spotfire's built-in analytics are do not scale (in-memory only) and are a bit outdated. Using in-house products like Team Studio as an in-DB and up-to-date extension to Spotfire fails due to insufficient integration. 3) Data Sources: when it comes to data sources and streaming there seems to be no way around an additional Streaming product from Tibco (Streambase) to connect to the de-facto standard Kafka. So if you have Kafka you need to buy and maintain yet another product to allow consuming the Kafka streams in Spotfire rather than having a direct Kafka connector.
