I like the matching functionality within Frontier. I appreciate the monthly emails and training courses available to your customers. I like that we have the ability to do our own builds within the application.
The auto match and auto reconciliation.
What I like most about the Frontier product is that it makes the reconciliation of accounts less time consuming for the reconciler. The program allows for very specific matching rules that, when constructed well, leave only the exceptions to be handled by the reconciler. Frontier can reconcile accounts with thousands of transactions - think Zelle, Smartpay (a Jack Henry product), and debit card transactions - at the transaction level so that you always know exactly what transactions make up the balance. And when things go awry - as they often do! - Frontier can save hours of reconciliation when transactions have to be reversed because of an error. We had a situation where a vendor's ACH file was appending transactions: Day 1 file was normal, Day 2 = Day 1 Day 2, Day 3 = Day 1 Day 2 D3... that went on for 5 days. It took the vendor 2 weeks to generate a reversal file for us. What would have taken days to reconcile in the past took an afternoon.

Setting up new Frontier reconciliations because of the many different places that you have to navigate through.
At least in our credit union, Frontier requires a full-time administrator. We are hosted in Trintech's datacenter and Frontier receives files from both our accounting software (Prologue - hosted in the datacenter) and our core (on-prem). This requires a lot of file coordination to get the files where they need to go in the timeframe they are expected. I wish I could say it is seamless, but it isn't. And when it is not, it does take some time to rectify. Maintenance windows occur monthly over the weekend and that presents another set of challenges as after hours work is needed to catch-up the file imports. And there is a lot of learning curve with the product, both on the admin side and the user side.

Overcoming Challenges with Trintech's Frontier Reconciliation System
Trintech has been a fantastic company to partner with since it purchased the Frontier Reconciliation product. Their Customer Service is top-notch. Within the portal where I can request help for any problems I am having, I can either submit screenshots or a video! I find that to be extremely helpful since it takes care of a lot of the questions from the representative that is trying to help. The management at Trintech is very engaged with their customers. They host a quarterly virtual meetup with Frontier users and have engaged a group of 'user chairs' who contribute content for the meeting. Financial Platform with high potential hindered by many bugs
Platform has a lot of potential, but it has a lot of bugs. For example, they don't have setup daily reconciliation process, which is standard for big banks. Data formats are different for Frontier and Cert, which is annoying, because sometimes you have to create two reports in different formats in order to be imported through Frontier and Cert. Purging of data processes are also very confusing, where it is not clearly specified how items are moved from active to historical and how items are purged from the historical table. I don't really feel like I'm fully in control of the purge process.
