Intuit QuickBooks Likes & Dislikes

Like

QuickBooks has reliable accounting tools that make it easy to track expenses, manage transactions and generate accurate financial reports. It also has a user-friendly interface which makes it easier to understand even if you don't have an accounting background. Lastly, QuickBooks has a stable integration ecosystem which allows users to connect to a wide variety of third-party applications.

Like

It is a cost effective alternative with good overall performance. User friendly for this kind of software.

Like

Most of all I like the transparency of the program that allows users to see both sides of each accounting transaction with ease. Just as important is that with additional purchases, payroll services offered if used correctly, updated every time laws change and allows accountants to calculate payroll in QuickBooks correctly and also file Quarterly and Annual Payroll Reports using its software electronically.

Dislike

Although QuickBooks is a great help for us, there are areas that we hope it could improve. First is the limited nonprofit-specific features: it doesn't have built-in tools for donor management, grant tracking or fundraising. Subscription fees are also a bit high, and important features like payroll and advanced reporting often come with extra costs. Last would be their customer support, we have experienced slow response times and inconsistent support quality.

Dislike

Support is limited and some bugs appear on occasion.

Dislike

While QuickBooks for Non-profits is excellent for bookkeeping purposes, I would not recommend using it to manage individual donors and their activity. This can be especially cumbersome if an organization has hundreds or thousands of donors.

Transparency and Bookkeeping Strengths Noted in QuickBooks for Non-Profit Desktop

    5.0
    May 14, 2026
QuickBooks provides a user-friendly, transparent experience. Specifically, the QuickBooks for Non-Profit desktop program. I would recommend this program in the past. Now with QuickBooks taking a more profit-focused approach, the cost of the software has increased, while the offered services change very slightly from year to year.

Quickbooks for small nonprofit ... would recommend.

Generally speaking, this software is sufficient for most everything we need to accomplish as a nonprofit with a $XX budget. The downside is that reporting is not as customizable as we would like in that you cannot compare actuals to prior period and to budget all in one report.

Solid product but they try to fix what ain't broke

I think their insistence on AI and automation doesn't work great for our industry, and their recent website design changes aren't what we want, but otherwise QBO is pretty good.
