Alation listens and gives the user community an opportunity to share ideas and work together to improve the Alation tool and even the applications specific use of the platform. The ease of the connectors and ability to connect/pull in Metadata is very smooth and easy to implement. The exposure of database content is great via the Alation Analytics database and allows teams to report on usage/curation progress as well as other KPIs. Alation's continued expansion and solution package is very palatable.

Good UI/UX, Nice arrangement of Schemas, tables and columns, Good query compose feature.

The product is very configurable and I like that we can create custom fields to hold the data in a way that makes sense for our organization. I also like that the back end database can be hooked to PowerBI so that I can create custom dashboards very easily.

A few aspects of the application that can use updates: Automating lineage has been problematic from time to time but this would be a key feature to implement. Admin related content within the Alation Analytics tool are lacking and would be a nice piece to support the tool from an administrative standpoint. Some of the maintenance/infrastructure for on-prem has had issues from time to time and we would like to see this improve (though the focus is on the cloud related features at this point).

Starburst connector did not work well for us, Compose only supported user credentials instead of OAuth, Customer support was not able to fix our issues in time.

There is no automated lineage function to show the flow of data between two systems (for example, Salesforce data into Snowflake. We only see the salesforce data and the snowflake data but no lineage connection between the 2). This is a very manual / time consuming step for our organization to set up, but something that is very important so we cannot skip it. I wish there was a way to automate the link between 2 systems so that this did not need to be done manually.
