My main reasons to use this tool is it gets the context very well and implements the functionalities, needs very well with minimal chat only and helps our work to deliver very fast and reduces the time consumption and the only thing I have concern on is that it has less tokens and credits will be used very fast.

When it works, it is somewhat functional, but more often than not, the Web Services are down or lose connectivity to vital operations/applications. It is not a reliable service operator yet it permeates most of our systems.

Amazon Q Streamlines Development but Security Oversights Require Close Monitoring

    4.0
    Dec 23, 2025
We've started using Amazon Q to enhance the productivity of our developers and DevOps teams and to deliver high-quality software. It integrates easily with VS Code and provides inline code completion across a wide variety of languages. We are particularly impressed with the chat side bar, which helps us implement new technologies and understand how to integrate them into our existing code base. I would say Amazon Q has increased our delivery rate by more than 40% after 1 year of usage. We expect this to increase as people become more familiar with its usage.

Our overall experience with Amazon Q has been very positive, especially in accelerating internal knowledge discovery and enterprise search use cases, significantly the time employees spend searching across documents, tickets and internal systems. What worked well was the seamless integration with existing AWS infrastructure and the ability to ground responses in enterprise data security.

Amazon Q Business Likes & Dislikes

Like

It understands the context very well and can access our code in our code editor (IDLE). Even through if we give the context of the active file if the code involves remaining files, if it can access those files. It will fetch those files and folders too, and use them as context to complete the task at its core. That's a wonderful service I liked the most. Another thing I liked the second most was switching between models with auto mode. That's also a very good feature in it.

Like

It supports all of the systems we need, it has a turnaround time to fix that is quick, and it is widely accessible by users. But I really have to dig deep to think of anything I like about this service.

Like

We like the inline code suggestions and the chatbot which helps to get knowledge of new technologies and to understand how this can be implemented in our codebase.

Dislike

As mentioned earlier, it is good at the work it provides but still credits will go fast and also one way it refills that credits every month, but those credits are not sufficient. But I accept that, because it helps users the best so, it asks for a subscription. The other thing is that it gives code inline suggestions but when we want to make small changes it will sometimes show disruption to not enter what we write in IDLE and it asks to complete its suggestion. The suggestion is good but if we use that suggestion for small things then credits will complete faster instead we can save them for next big tasks. I don't know whether it's a code editor's drawback or this. Apart from that everything is good.

Dislike

It often goes down and we're left waiting in the dust. I hate that I cannot guarantee access. It seems IT is frequently sending a mass message to us stating that AWS is down and they're working on the problem (but it happens SO OFTEN it's barely functional at times).

Dislike

When it comes to security, Amazon Q sometimes prioritizes functionality over best practices. For example, it may suggest IAM policies with wild card permissions, which violates the Principle of Least Privilege. While this helps to complete the tsks faster, we must remain vigilant and carefully review all AI generated output, especially regarding security, to ensure they meet our compliance standards.
