Overview

Product Information on ArcGIS

Updated 13th October 2025

What is ArcGIS?

ArcGIS is a software developed by Esri designed for geographic information system applications, enabling users to analyze, visualize, and interpret spatial data. The software provides tools for mapping, spatial analytics, and location intelligence, supporting workflows that involve data management, geocoding, network analysis, and imagery processing. ArcGIS facilitates the integration of spatial data with business systems, helping organizations manage assets, plan projects, and make informed decisions based on geographic patterns and trends. The software addresses business needs in sectors such as urban planning, transportation, natural resources, and public safety by supporting collaboration and sharing of spatial insights across different teams and stakeholders.

ArcGIS Pricing

ArcGIS software uses a subscription-based pricing model with different tiers depending on user type, features, and deployment options. Pricing for the software varies by individual, organization, and industry use case, with options for annual or monthly payments. Access to additional modules, capabilities, or data may require separate licensing or add-ons.

ArcGIS has provided me with all of the tools I need to do any kind of data analysis I can imagine. It's easy to get support when you have questions or challenges with your project. The only issue I've encounter is the slow down of my computer, but that is to be expected with a program of this size and large datasets.

“ArcGIS Excels in Drone Data Processing But Faces Stability and Update Issues”

3.0
Feb 24, 2026
ArcGIS is a highly capable software for most geospatial and drone analytics functions. However, despite its strengths, the most notable drawback is system stability due to occasional crashing. Also, frequent updates that require system level access with administration privileges are cumbersome and time consuming in large organisations where IT controls are tightly managed. Another limitation is the lack of seamless integration with Microsoft OneDrive.

Custom web apps and branding are strong, but updates can break functionality

Overall I have had a great experience using ArcGIS products on a day-to-day basis. Experience Builder has come a long way and they are always improving things. Occasionally an update may be problematic or we'll find a bug but the ESRI team is pretty good about finding fixes in the next update.

Performance of ArcGIS Across Market Features

ArcGIS Likes & Dislikes

Like

There is an excellent user community and tons of educational initiatives provided by Esri, which makes using ArcGIS a great experience - it's easy to get advice, and there are always new webinars being added to help you use the product to its full potential. The variety of tools and data visualization options make it easy to create custom and informative maps of my data. It's easy to utilize open-access data as well through the online portal which allows you to add those data sets to your map with a couple of clicks.

Like

What I like most about ArcGIS is the accuracy and reliability of its drone data processing. It consistently produces high quality 2D and 3D outputs which are essential in my professional use cases in estate management such as building construction inspections and modelling. Another standout is its seamless integration with the wider ArcGIS ecosystem, allowing users to easily combine drone-derived data with existing GIS layers, enabling better decision making across teams. Finally, the enterprise-grade security and scalability offered by ArcGIS is a huge plus.

Like

The power of web apps like Experience Builder really allows us to create custom web apps with organization branding. Instant apps have made that process even quicker for some scenarios. The ability to publish to our Enterprise Portal from Site Scan is very useful.

Dislike

There is a steep learning curve with using ArcGIS for some data analysis, so it is most valuable with some training and education. ArcGIS also requires a very large amount of storage space, so you will experience more slow downs or crashes on laptops with small disk space. Depending on which license you have, some features are unavailable without paying a higher cost, so it can be quite pricey depending on what types of analyses you need to do.

Dislike

One of the biggest issues is stability. ArcGIS can occasionally crash, particularly when working with large datasets or complex drone projects, which disrupts workflows. The update and installation process is also frustrating in an enterprise environment. Updates require administrator privileges, making it cumbersome in large organisations where we depend on central IT teams for installations and updates. Another major drawback is poor integration with Microsoft OneDrive

Dislike

Changes to arcade scripts have caused major pains in updating attribute rules for the address management system. AGOL updates have broken functionality that used to exist in the Experience Builder search widget. Moving 3D meshes between enterprise version updates has proven to be difficult using the webgisdr.
