Product Information on AWS Certificate Manager

Updated 13th October 2025

What is AWS Certificate Manager?

AWS Certificate Manager is a software that facilitates the management, provisioning, and deployment of digital SSL or TLS certificates. The software automates the process of renewing, deploying, and tracking certificates for websites and applications that run on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. AWS Certificate Manager helps organizations secure network communications and establish the identity of websites over the internet as well as resources on private networks. It handles tasks such as certificate creation, validation, and lifecycle management, aiming to reduce the manual effort required for managing security certificates and to address business challenges related to web security and regulatory compliance.

AWS Certificate Manager Pricing

AWS Certificate Manager software applies a pricing model that charges for certificates provisioned for use outside of Amazon Web Services and for private certificates issued through its private certificate authority. Public certificates for use within AWS services are available at no additional cost, while private certificates incur charges based on the number issued and managed.

“Reliable, scalable and hassle-free cert management”

Aug 31, 2025
AWS Certificate Manager has been an solid tool for managing SSL/TLS certificates in our environment. It has helped a lot to simplify the process of issuing, deploying, and renewing certificates, which used to be a manual and error-prone task. Automation for renewals and easy integration with other AWS services has worked very well. The only challenge we faced was the initial learning curve in understanding how to properly configure the certificate validation, especially with DNS-based validation, but once set up, it has been pretty seamless, all in all.

AWS Certificate Manager Likes & Dislikes

Like

Automated certificate renewal really helps to cut down on operational overhead. There is also deep integration with other AWS services such as ELB, CloudFront, and API Gateway. Lastly, a top aspect is the strong security practices and compliance with industry standards.

Like

-good price -suitable for aws platform -integrate well with other resource in aws

Like

1. Well automatic certificate renewal that saves time and reduces human errors 2. Seamless integration with other AWS services like CloudFront, ALB, and API Gateway 3. Minimal maintenance required once set up, making it highly efficient

Dislike

A few niggles, some major, some minor. Limited support for certificates outside of AWS, using them with non-AWS workloads is not as straightforward. Also, on top of that, the error messages during validation can sometimes be vague, making troubleshooting harder. Documentation could provide more real-world examples to help speed up initial setup.

Dislike

-not able to use same certificate across region -not able to use for other cloud platform and on-premise -not available to also 3rd party and client server

Dislike

1. Limited visibility and metrics in the console - It would be nice to see more detailed renewal logs 2. Slightly confusing when managing multiple accounts and regions, as certs aren't globally visible 3. Occasional delays in certificate validation when setting up new domains

Automatic Renewal and Minimal Maintenance Highlight AWS Certificate Manager Efficiency

My overall experience with AWS Certificate Manager has been very positive during my usage. As an admin (DevOps Engineer), most of the heavy lifting was already configured before I took ownership by previous team members, so I mainly receive renewal notifications and just ensure everything is on track and all domains are up and running. The fact that everything works smoothly in the background without requiring constant management makes this service reliable and easy to trust. Until today I didn't had even one incident

It's a fire-and-forget product for AWS ecosystem free of charge

It's a product exclusively designed for use within AWS. It automates the issuing, validation, and renewal of certificates. If a service is linked to a certificate issued by AWS Certificate Manager, no action is required: the certificate is automatically extended to the service. In terms of security, it meets basic requirements and the private key never leaves AWS, making it easy to manage and it allows you to scale to hundreds of certificates. To a minor degree of use, you can create, for example, certification authorities that provide more professional features. It is compatible with all browsers and widely recognized. Finally, it's free of charge.
