Overview

Product Information on Azure DDoS Protection

Updated 14th October 2025

What is Azure DDoS Protection?

Azure DDoS Protection is a software developed by Microsoft that provides distributed denial of service mitigation capabilities for applications hosted on Azure. The software continuously monitors network traffic, uses adaptive tuning, and applies automatic attack mitigation to protect resources from large-scale DDoS attacks. It offers real-time telemetry and alerts, enabling administrators to understand attack patterns and respond effectively. The software integrates with other Azure security products to build comprehensive protection strategies and helps businesses maintain application availability and performance by addressing threats that target uptime and network reliability. It supports compliance and reporting with detailed analytics and post-attack analysis.

Azure DDoS Protection Pricing

Azure DDoS Protection software uses a pricing model based on a fixed monthly fee per protected resource, with charges applied for each public IP address enabled for protection. The software includes options for standard protection levels, and additional charges may apply for extra features and outbound data transfers. Pricing varies depending on deployment scale and selected plan.

Azure DDoS Protection Likes & Dislikes

Like

The dashboard provides real-time monitoring of the resources which has improved our cyber security posture by automating threat management and allowing us to fully eliminate denial of service attacks. Its incredibly capable of web content filtering and the timely alerts help in identifying and defending the attacks.

Like

Well like I mentioned a very impressive feature about this service is its ability to protect an IP address as well apart from the network. Having said that I also like its feature of always-on-monitoring which provides continuous monitoring of the traffic patterns that my application is receiving and using those we can identify any imminent attacks. This service also provides protection from extensive mitigation of the resources we use in our infrastructure in respect to network throttling which would be triggered in case of DDoS which ensures that our application stays up. Also we are provided with cost protection which covers the cost of the resources that were consumed during a DDoS attack. These features stand out to me for this service.

Like

The best feature is that we use Azure DDoS Protection we don't have to configure anything our whole infrastructure is multi-layer protected. It is very user-friendly even non-technical people can easily configure it. Even though we had a mass attack on our website we didn't have any downtime during our outages our website latency was at normal range. The integration is very seamless in the Azure eco-system and as it is it can scale as needed.

Dislike

I find it a bit limiting in the level of customization and direct control users have on the visibility over the DDoS mitigation process.

Dislike

One major point that I dislike about the service is its costing. It is very costly. I would appreciate if azure could provide us with discount in case there is no DDoS over the year. Another problem is the community support that uses Azure DDoS is not that great which makes it really hard to ask questions and find solutions. Another issue that I find that needs to be worked on is the GUI for this service, maybe others might find it simple but to me it is confusing and changes there would definitely be helpful

Dislike

The pricing is very high it can be thousands of dollars to prove security. The customization is very complex. In high-volume DDoS attacks, we have seen the scalability challenges to scale the system. The learning curve is high it takes time to get familiar with tools and use them.

Definitely implement to provide enhanced protection to resources

I am quite content with the level of DDoS protection that is provided by Azure. This service has helped me secure layer 3 and 4 of my network layer and also since it automatically provides protection to many resources in a virtual network it is very easy to integrate and implement. Also for the resources which require enabling this service can do so without any additional changes to them which makes it ideal for services hosted on a virtual network in azure. It provides an option to protect the IP as well incase we have any application publicly exposed using IP which is a plus point for us.
