For me, people learn so much through video content today. Especially micro learning or youtube style videos and guides. Camtasia provides a truly cost effective way to learning content and resource creation. So many uses. And although the program itself isn't cheap, you get a lot of features that come with it and the quality seems to be unmatched. Camtasia also provides really good accessibility options and tools including closed captioning. I appreciate the layout being similar to that of iMovie. The options to drop in content from folders and build a library, the ability to snip video/audio files so that you can add in picture in picture or another piece of content in between, and the ability to use template designs for transitions, especially when fading in and out of a video. Lastly, as someone who uses Workday Learning to drive corporate L&D, the download of file types includes SCORM and XAPI.
The interface is clean and well organized, with clear menus and readily available effects making the learning curve surprisingly gentle.
I like the animations. With a little imagination, you can pretty much do anything without having to learn complex video editing tools. The yearly plan is also very advantageous.
My only gripe is I wish Camtasia could be more of a collaborative tool for sharing workable files. Since everything is saved locally, it makes collaboration difficult. There really is no cloud based system for Camtasia. It requires a lot of back and forth file sharing/sending, which also comes with bandwith and file size issues on how you share given these can be extensive videos. You would be best saving or uploading to a cloud based storage app.
No linux support, currently available for windows and macOS
I use Camtasia on a Mac Pro 2020. Sometimes, the app just shuts down out of the blue. Sometimes, there is trouble starting the app. Especially if I've added AI-generated audio into the project, then these shut downs occur much more often.
