Cloudflare Access Likes & Dislikes
It simplified our security of internal apps. We were able to remove our traditional VPN and improve our security posture. It was easy to deploy and configure various identity based controls that our previous VPN did not have available. Integration into existing SSO/ identities was easy.
Easy to deploy and easy for the user to use. It's great that customers can use both Magic WAN and Cloudflared as deployment methods. Other vendors would offer either IPSec or reverse proxy solutions. Their team are motivated to help and develop their product together with the customer.
How well the service scales and how much information is provided in the logs
Cost and troubleshooting. Cost of the product is expensive for enterprise features that should be standard features. Also, some error messages aren't descriptive as to why a specific feature isn't working.
Missing functionality that does not allow technical teams to view essential information in the dashboard - that would concern mainly the on-ramp connection/ device profile assignment. Manual set-up of static routes for Magic Wan or split tunneling settings that increases the amount of manual labour needed as well as the probablitity of the human error. (no dynamic protocols at all) Lack of geolocation settings for Cloudflared proxies, lack of grouping of reverse proxies, manual addition of the routes once more, lack of failover from CFed to Magic WAN Cumbersome UI and policy dashboard that makes policy management difficult in a big organisation. A problematic client that spawns a lot of single-user issues across the whole organisation. Lack of customisation when it comes to ingress/egress GWs. Egress IPs need to be purchased as a separate package. Overall, enterprise solution getting the same set of options/ features as users on the 'free plan'
The UI can be a little confusing at times, diagnosing issues can be a little difficult and the the logs sometimes contain too much information.
